Impact of vulnerability CVE-2026-40342 on our products

A security vulnerability has been identified in the Firebird product from FirebirdSQL (CVE-2026-40342).

I. Summary of the security vulnerability

Firebird is an open-source relational database management system. In versions prior to 5.0.4, 4.0.7 and 3.0.14, the external engine plugin loader concatenates a user-supplied engine name into a filesystem path without filtering path separators or .. components. An authenticated user with CREATE FUNCTION privileges can use a crafted ENGINE name to load an arbitrary shared library from anywhere on the filesystem via path traversal. The library's initialization code executes immediately during loading, before Firebird validates the module, achieving code execution as the server's OS account.

This issue has been fixed in versions 5.0.4, 4.0.7 and 3.0.14.

II. Impact on our products

The following products from TA Triumph-Adler and UTAX are affected if the affected versions of Firebird prior to 5.0.4, 4.0.7, and 3.0.14 are used:
  • aQrate – countermeasure: Update Firebird to version 4.0.7 in the next release of Central and Print Server.
    aQrate PS 8.2 p60, CS 8.2 p44 (RTM: July/August 2026). aQrate PS 10.2 p24, CS 10.2 p24 (RTM: July/August 2026).
  • NDM (Network Device Manager) – countermeasure: The issue will be resolved in DM 4.1. (RTM: August 2026).
  • NPM (Network Print Monitor) – countermeasure: The issue will be resolved in KNV 6.14. (RTM: December 2026).
